Practicing gratitude and appreciation truly has the power to brighten you day.
You are Your Thoughts
What you think affect what you do and how you feel.
The cognitive triangle is one visual model that shows this powerful connection.
Here I'll give you an example so that it makes more sense...
NEGATIVE CYCLE
Event: Your friend or co-worker does not say hi back to you.
Thought: How rude! They must be mad at me for some reason.
Feeling: Hurt. Upset. Anger. Embarrassed.
Behavior: You ignore them or are rude to them the next time you see them.
Affect: You feel bad. You might have made them feel bad. The relationship is weakened.
vs.
POSITIVE CYCLE
Event: Your friend or co-worker does not say hi back to you.
Thought: I hope they are okay, maybe something is going on.
Feeling: Compassion.
Behavior: Next time you see them you might ask them if they are okay or if they need someone to talk to. Or you might do something nice for them to cheer them up.
Affect: You feel good for helping someone out. They feel supported and compassionate. The relationship is strengthened.
Isn't it crazy how much power your thoughts have?! This is just one smaller example, but hopefully now you will be able to notice the next time you have some negative thoughts and will have the power to change them!
What does this have to do with Gratitude?
When you think about what you are grateful for, you feel love, appreciation, and happiness. In turn you are more likely to be kind, compassionate, and enjoy life. Thinking about what you are grateful for has so much power because it influences how you feel and what you do.
All you have to do to have a better day, a happier life, is just practice gratitude. Tell yourself, someone else, or write down what you are grateful for and you will experience the power of your thoughts.
Self-Growth Printable
Just write down 3 things you are grateful for each day.
This is a great way to keep track and remind you of what you are grateful for. Feel free to either print it or download it and put it in OneNote so that you can edit it on your computer.
You can fill it in in the mornings to start your day off on the right foot, before bed for a more restful night of sleep, whenever you need a pick me up, or even when you are feeling really grateful and want to remember the feeling. 😊💖
