Days when we start to have negative thoughts are the days we need the most self love. 💕
On days where we feel unmotivated or sick, or gross, or whatever it may be, these days we tend to be harder on ourselves. But the truth of the matter is, these are the days we need the most self love.
I for sure have days were I feel gross, and bloated, and sick, and ugly, and the first thoughts I have are negative. Days when I continued those negative thoughts for the rest of the day ended up being bad days. Days where I actually changed my negative thoughts to positive ones were much better. Even though the days started the same, I can easily change my mood and the overall tone for the rest of the day. Continuing the negative thoughts and guilt will only intensify the bad feeling.
So what are some tricks to do switch those negative thoughts?
Change the words you tell yourself
I’ll just give you a quick example. Some days I wake up and I feel very gross and bloated. First I'll think, “oh man I am so bloated today, I don’t feel good, I look bad” when I continue those thoughts for the rest of the day, I lack motivation, I feel depressed, I feel self-conscious, and guilty.
On the other hand, when I change my thoughts to “it is okay, this is normal, I am just bloated, it is really not a big deal. I can drink water and it will help. It is still a great day!“ When I say this instead, I am not weighed down by my thoughts, I still have motivation, sometimes more, and I can continue feeling confident and enjoy life.
Identify the negative self-talk
Notice when the negative thoughts start coming and change them. Sometimes this can be quite simple. Instead of saying, "you are not very smart, how could you make such a mistake", tell yourself "you are smart, everyone makes mistakes. This one does not define you're intelligence." Other times it can be much more difficult to pick up on the negative talk. Sometimes we tell ourselves things that we don't realize are bringing us down. In these cases, it is really helpful to talk to someone. They can provide a second opinion and open your mind to self-talk you think is okay but really is not.
Recognize and Accept that you will not always feel 100%
Pain and suffering, no matter how big or small, is part of our everyday lives. Yes, some days will be better than others. That saying, there is no reason for why you should inflict further suffering upon yourself. It is important to understand and recognize that you will not always feel your best, but your suffering doesn't have to last so long and be so intense. Boosting your mood doesn't mean that you are going to feel 100% all of the time, but it does me that you are going to feel happier more often and for longer periods of time.
You deserve to be happy
For my friends out there who don’t believe you are deserving of happiness or can be happy, that is not true. Change those heavy negative thoughts into light positive ones, you will see a change in your overall mood and see the brighter side to life; It is open for you.
😘Love you and have a great day!
